ABOUT STUDENTS (7th-12rd grade)

We believe the Gospel is the good news that God’s Kingdom has come through Jesus—through his death for our sins and his victory over death in the resurrection. This good news shapes every part of our lives. In student ministry, we aim to equip students to live out the Gospel with their head, heart, and hands.

We want students to love God with their head, heart, and hands. With their head, we long for their minds to be shaped by the truth of the Bible and the historic Christian faith so they can thoughtfully engage the world. With their heart, we pray they encounter the transforming love of God through Jesus’ death and resurrection, growing in relationship with the Father through the Son by the Spirit. With their hands, we desire their faith to be lived out daily—in the places they live, learn, work, and play—marked by love of neighbor and a bold witness to the Gospel.

Sunday Morning

Join us on Sunday mornings, 9:30-10:30, for a Bible study aimed at forming students' minds in their understanding of the Bible and the historic Christian faith. This year, we are working through the New City Catechism. The New City Catechism is based on Reformation-era catechisms such as the Geneva Catechism, the Westminster Shorter Catechism, and the Heidelberg Catechism. Catechisms are a tool that Christians have historically used to teach young people the foundational teachings of the Bible clearly and concisely.

Wednesday Morning

Join us on Wednesday evenings, 5:30 - 7:30, for Youth Group, which is aimed at forming students' hearts in relationship with God and one another. On Wednesday evenings, we share a meal, play a game, worship with song, hear a short sermon, and discuss the sermon in small groups. Youth Group is meant to be a relationally rich time where students can pause in the middle of their busy weeks to worship God and have a time of fellowship with one another.

Covenant Groups

The Christian faith is a faith lived out. It is never meant to stay in our heads and our hearts; it is intended to be worked out with our hands in all the places we live, learn, work, and play. Covenant groups are a time for 2-3 students of the same gender to gather with a leader to discuss how they are living out their faith outside of Church. This fall, Covenant groups will be working through Jen Wilkins' book, Ten Words to Live By. This book casts a vision for how the Ten Commandments are not a burdensome morality but an invitation to the abundant life that God designed us for. If you are interested in being part of one of these groups, please email dannerhutchison@fbcds.com.
